Pachube simply put, is one big blog/youtube/google search engine like sort of thing... Like youtube it enables you store, share and discover real time environmental data from sensors with internet connection... Temparature, light, movement sensors etc. which can be connected to the internet via arduino boards and nanode etc. can also be wired up to pachube. Pachube recieves the data/information from the sensor, and people are able to monitor and share that data... You can monitor your house temparature over a period of time, see at what time the temparature was high and at what time it was low... From that data you can make decision about your gas bills and what time are best to turn on the radiators etc.. Connections can also be made between any two responsive environments, facilitating even spontaneous or previously unplanned connections. Apart from being used in physical environments, pachube also allows people to embed this data in web-pages, in effect to "blog" sensor data.

Opening University energy data so people can understand their own impact...
This is an interesting article I found on the pachube blog encouraging universities to make their energy data open so that students can see their impact on the bill. Although this could also cause a big stur if Universities are overcharging tuiton fees...
